I am a hobbyist and don't sell my images, don't make my living from photography. It definitely sounds as though it could be a definite asset in one's image editing toolbox!Īs far as using watermarks, I just don't, because I figure that whatever I share online might be appreciated and enjoyed by viewers but most would not decide to grab it and copy it for their own uses or claim it as their own. I've heard of Gigapixel AI and a while ago had intended to get it when I had a particular need but then never got around to it after all. The program does really make a difference when for whatever reason an image just doesn't seem to come out quite as sharp as had been anticipated. I've got both the older version of Sharpen AI and the current one have to admit that I'm still using the older one, as I need to run updates on the newer version which had some glitches when it was first released. It was just an experiment for me- but I thought others might learn from it. I do not think there is a way to put an image on line that is truly safe from copying.Īnd before you ask, yes the files I downloaded have been deleted and print has been destroyed. I use gigapixel to enlarge a little for my big 40圆0" prints, but never dreamed I could enlarge to this degree without significant obvious issues. I find they interfere with actually enjoying the image, but they do not protect anything. I am not sure why I tote around a 61mp camera and long glass when I can print from literally nothing. (Yes I said the picture was not mine.)Ĭan I tell the difference- a little if I really look-maybe. I showed this to 3 different people and even after asking them to look for issues in the picture- no one saw anything. I printed the image roughly 8x9" on an inexpensive glossy paper as an experiment. I now have a file of a size that 94% of the data was re created by the computer. I did nothing but open the picture and push a button. I was going to print it on an 8.5x11" piece of paper so I enlarged it to 2631x2400 pixels. Then I ran the image through topaz Gigapixel. Nothing new here, but watermarks do not protect anything. Content aware fill did most of the heavy lifting. It took me less than 90 seconds to remove it completely from the image- at least well enough that no normal viewer would notice. Unfortunately, watermarks are very easy to remove. I think we would all assume our image is safe and sound. The image was also posted quite small, 648x591 pixels. There was a very nice image posted here several days ago, but it had a large watermark across the entire image. I am fairly fluent in photoshop, but certainly not a guru.

Something I think we can all learn from or at least be reminded of.
